As 2021 wraps up and we move into 2022, we wanted to take a look back at 2021. It was a year of very big changes for us, with the biggest being a move abroad.
Trips Around the US
While working virtually most of last school year, we did manage to sneak in a few trips around the US before moving abroad.
We managed to get to Charleston, South Carolina for a week, took a 10 day road trip across the country to visit friends in San Diego that included a stop in Albuquerque, spent 5 days in Portland, Maine, and another 5 days in New York City.
When we traveled to Portland in mid August, this was our first time back on a plane in nearly 2 years! Thankfully we still had Southwest points to use from flights canceled in 2020 due to COVID!
All of those were beautiful cities, even though it was really the company of the people that made the trips so wonderful. We still have to get around to writing about them all though!
Spending Time With Family and Friends
Other than a few trips at the end of summer—Portland and New York City—our summer was relatively normal. We spent it working at breweries in Milwaukee: Lakefront and Dead Bird. Definitely check them out if you visit Milwaukee!
We also spent a lot of time with family and friends between working and cleaning out our apartment to get ready to move to Spain. It was an excellent summer of spending time with loved ones that culminated in a huge going away party that was definitely bittersweet.
Move to Spain
In September 2021, we moved abroad to Madrid, Spain. This had been kind of in the works for a few years and something we had really wanted to do. However, due to some life circumstances and COVID—of course—we has to postpone it year after year.
Finally, in 2021, we pulled the plug and decided it was the right time in our lives to move abroad and fulfill our dream of living abroad.
It hasn’t been all easy and perfect though, with everything from leaving our old jobs in the US to the challenges that come with moving and living in a different country.
No matter what happens with our lives in the future, we will always be grateful that we took this opportunity and tried living abroad because, otherwise, we would have always regretted it and wondered what if?

Started a YouTube
Another big step we took in 2021 was starting a YouTube channel!
Yes, it’s small and doesn’t have many subscribers or views, but we wanted to try it out. We’re learning as we go and appreciate any support, feedback, or ideas for future videos that you’d like to hear about! If you have any, drop them in the comments below or on our YouTube channel.

Travel Planning
We did some travel planning on the side for some clients who had reached out to us to help with their destination wedding and honeymoon!
It was so much fun being able to help them create a guest itinerary and honeymoon for them! We really enjoyed the process, and it was wonderful working with them!
If you are ever in need of assistance with travel planning, no matter how big or small, please contact us and we can figure out a way that we can work together to best suit your travel needs.
Looking for Full-Time Work in Spain
As we move in 2022, one of our goals is to find full-time work here in Span.
The Auxiliar de Conversación Program in Spain is a fantastic way for us to live here for now, but it’s not a stable, long-term solution.
We love living here—although it’s not without its ups and downs—and our goal is to try to find a way to stay here for longer.
Thank you all for following along and joining our community of travelers in 2021, and we look forward to an even better 2022!
