Cordoba Bell Tower

When visiting the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, you also need to visit the Bell Tower where you will get the best view in all of Cordoba. Well, at least from above, but more on that later…

The Bell Tower of Cordoba towers over the Old Town at 54 meters tall. Just like the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, it was built over the former minaret in the 17th century.

Old Town Tour

Getting lost in a new city might not be everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you have limited time on your Cordoba day trip. However, walking Cordoba’s historic old town is absolutely worth it.

The narrow, seemingly endless winding streets will take you on a journey through the city’s rich history as you meander through areas that have been around for thousands of years and where different religions and cultures mixed together.

While walking through the Old Town of Cordoba, you will most likely happen upon the Cordoba Jewish Quarter. La Judería is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed buildings, and flower-filled patios, reflecting the city’s medieval history. Once home to a thriving Jewish community during the Islamic Caliphate, it houses a 14th-century Synagogue.

Chances are, it’ll be busy with people trying to snap the perfect photo, so be prepared. Unless of course you go super early in the day!

The prized photo of the Calleja de las Flores is at the end of the alley where there’s a dead end, but a spectacular view through the narrow, whitewashed, flower-lined alley at the Mosque-Cathedral’s bell tower.

Cordoba Roman Temple

While many of these other things to do in Cordoba take a bit more time, seeing the Cordoba Roman Temple won’t take long—mostly because it’s still under renovation.

That means that the Cordoba Roman temple might just be the perfect thing to quickly slide into your one day itinerary in Cordoba, Spain!

It dates back to the late 1st century AD but wasn’t discovered until the 1950’s when they were expanding the City Hall. The Cordoba Roman Temple has been under construction for quite some time due to continuous setbacks and bankruptcies in the renovation process.

But it’s an interesting piece of history to stroll by on your one day in Cordoba.

Lastly, and perhaps the best way to end your day in Cordoba, is to walk across the Roman Bridge and take in the sunset over Cordoba.

It was originally built in the 1st century BC and has lasted the test of time. The 16 magnificent arches are best seen from the other side of the Guadalquivir River with the Cordoba Mosque and mountains in the background.

It truly is the perfect way to end your one day in Cordoba, but…

Is a Cordoba Day Trip Enough?

Our advice at MY Travel BF is no.

A day trip to Cordoba is simply not enough.

We recommend spending at least one day and a night in Cordoba to fully experience the city, but ideally a weekend, especially if you’re traveling with children like us.

There is so much history, food, and things to do in Cordoba that packing it all into a short day trip from Seville would be too much.

In saying that, we realize that not everyone’s Spain itinerary allows for more than a quick day trip to Cordoba, so it’s still well worth going to Cordoba for a day trip.
