Most people who travel to Spain go to the major cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Granada, or Malaga. While this makes sense, as those cities are beautiful and offer a lot for travelers to do and see, Spain has plenty of other places that are well-worth visiting. One of these places, that is often skipped over by even the most well-traveled (including Spaniards themselves!) is La Rioja.

Yes, La Rioja is small, but it’s wine and pinchos (another word for tapas) make visiting La Rioja totally worth it. Mike taught English and lived in La Rioja for 2 years and absolutely loved it. However, he’s not the only one who feels this way, as other travel bloggers have written about their experiences in La Rioja too. You can read about them here, here, and here.

While we can’t deliver flowing crianza red wine and fresh pinchos to you, we wanted to share with you 20 photos that will make you want to visit La Rioja, Spain in hopes that you’re able to include this beautiful part of Spain next time you visit.
