2020 may feel like a lost year to many people. Time has simultaneously gone by fast—it’s already December…—yet dragged on with each day feeling more or less the same with nowhere to go.

It seems odd to think back to mid-March when COVID hit the US and everything shutdown. We remember thinking ‘Things will be back to normal in 2 weeks.’

Then, that 2 weeks turned into 4 weeks, another month, another couple months, and a few more. And here we are in December living in whatever this new normal is.

But as we near the end of 2020, it begs the question: What comes next?

Where does the world go from here? Where do we go from here?

This is true in each one of our lives on an individual level and as a global society, but also for us here at MY Travel BF as a travel blog.

Honestly, we have felt very conflicted about traveling lately. We’ve done a few road trips and explored some national parks over the summer, but we have been hesitant about getting on planes, even though plenty of others have.

Yes, we, just like everyone else, would love for life to get back to normal and to feel comfortable traveling as much as possible. However, thinking that’s going to happen just around the corner every single week is ridiculous.

Sure, there has been some great news on the potential vaccines, but holding on to hope that maybe we will have one next week has been terrible for our mental health. Adapting to life as it is now and realizing it might be like this for quite some time has been the best for us, even though we are as eager as everyone to once again feel comfortable being in large crowds without masks.

So once it’s finally safe to get back to normal and get back to traveling, what will 2020 bring us? How will you start to travel again?

You can find articles all over the internet about how people will travel once things open up and are safe again and what people most want to do. Some people want to move closer to family after not having been able to see them for so long, and others want a total change in everything and want to move abroad after being confined to their house or neighborhood for so long.

Since the beginning of this pandemic, we have been on both sides of this spectrum and essentially considered all possibilities, but with so many unknowns out there, it’s difficult to really settle on one and make a plan forward.

What’s the point of moving somewhere just to not be able to do anything? But also, why not move somewhere now and just change things up?

While we don’t have any specific plans in the future, we hope to do a little traveling, even locally throughout winter and into spring. These will probably be small road trips to nearby places we haven’t been to before but have been meaning to go. The little escapes here and there really help us to just get out of our house and clear our minds since we’re ALWAYS at home now.

We are really trying to remain hopeful that by next spring or summer we will be able to take another longer international trip where we can get out and explore other countries and their cultures, food, and languages more—something we have been craving and missing since COVID started.

What we are really curious about is, what are your plans in 2021?

How are you feeling as 2020 comes to an end?

Do you have future travel plans? If not, where do you want to go once it’s safe again?

The COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 has been incredibly difficult on everyone for a multitude of reasons, and hopefully it is almost over. We want to be here to provide you support and the best possible travel resources for now as well as after the pandemic. Let us know what you would like us to write about and how we can best help you moving forward!

What is your dream travel destination or plan in 2021?
